Three Surfaces. One Journey.

Tennis ball resting on a clay court line in warm South African light

Clay for grounding. Grass for tradition. Hard court for rhythm.

Each tennis surface tells its own story. On the Court to Coast Safari, those stories become chapters of a journey across Cape Town, Franschhoek, Arabella, and Knysna. For ten nights and eleven days, you’ll move through landscapes as varied as the game itself — with sunshine, wine, and culture woven in between every rally.

Clay for Grounding – Franschhoek’s Vineyards

Clay teaches patience, endurance, and balance. In Franschhoek, it becomes more than a surface — it becomes part of the valley’s rhythm.

Morning sessions unfold under oak trees, the red earth echoing every step and slide. The Leopard’s Leap Cup brings guests and local players together, laughter rising as naturally as the vines in the surrounding mountains. Afterwards, the day softens into a courtside braai and wine tasting, where the flavours of Franschhoek flow as smoothly as the rallies.

Clay grounds you — in movement, in community, and in the land itself.

Grass for Tradition – Knysna’s Portland Manor

Grass courts are rare. They carry the elegance of history, a direct line to tennis at its purest.

At Portland Manor in Knysna, you’ll step onto manicured greens first laid in the 1800s. Here, doubles unfold against a backdrop of forests and lakes. The ball skids low, demanding instinct, agility, and joy. Later, you’ll rally on the estate’s red clay, contrasting speed with slide, variety with tradition.

Grass is tradition — a reminder that some stories are timeless, especially when played beneath African skies.

Hard Court for Rhythm – Cape Town & Arabella

Hard courts bring pace and consistency — the steady beat of the modern game. In South Africa, they come alive in places of breathtaking beauty.

At Fresnaye Tennis Club in Cape Town, Lion’s Head rises behind the baseline while the Atlantic Ocean glitters below. In Arabella, matches unfold with lagoon views and fynbos stretching to the horizon. These sessions are about rhythm, flow, and the simple joy of playing under open skies while the rest of the world is deep in winter.

Hard courts carry rhythm — the heartbeat of the Court to Coast journey.

Why All Three Matter

Most tennis holidays give you one surface. Some, if you’re lucky, two. But Court to Coast Safari gives you all three — each set in a landscape that tells its own story. Together, they elevate tennis from sport to experience.

Clay, grass, and hard aren’t just surfaces. They’re metaphors: for grounding, tradition, and rhythm. For patience, history, and flow. For the way travel, like tennis, changes depending on the ground beneath your feet.
