A fresh chapter for tennis in the Garden Route
Some places seem to invite you to slow down, take a breath and stay for another set. Knysna is one of them.
Outside town, the courts at Portland Manor are bringing a new dimension to tennis in the forest: grass beneath your shoes, European-style clay under the morning light, and the Garden Route all around you. The Knysna-Plett Herald recently shared the story of these courts taking shape and the people gathering to play on them.
For Baseline Africa Tours, that story came to life during our Courts of the Forest weekend. Cape Town guests travelled to Knysna, where local players joined them on court. Different home courts, different playing styles, one simple pleasure: meeting through the game.
More than a change of surface
Grass rewards instinct and a quick first step. Clay invites patience and another ball. Moving between the two is part of the fun, but the weekend was about more than comparing surfaces. It was about the welcome, the conversations after a match and the feeling of discovering a place alongside the people who know it best.
That is the kind of tennis journey we love to create: time on court, room to connect and a setting that stays with you long after the last point. Knysna offered all three, with the forest close by and the next adventure never far away.
